This 1985 Chevrolet Blazer K5 has exceptionally low mileage, an overdrive transmission, and a great color combo

So that makes for a nice package when looking for one of the coolest vintage SUVs around. And if you love serious torque to go with your 4×4 style, then you’re going to love to see that this is a rare diesel example!

With such low mileage, you’re going to see some terrific preservation all over this Blazer. For example, the Apple Red paint shows all signs of being the factory application, and it continues to have an impressive shine four decades later. This also helps to show off the excellent sheet metal and gaps on this well-respected SUV. This is a premium Silverado trim with bright chrome bumpers, premium side trim, and bright Rally wheels. Plus, while the hardtop is removable on these Blazers, it looks particularly attractive here. The way the bright white and vibrant red go together gives this the all-American appeal of a Coca-Cola bottle. But as good as this looks, you know a diesel SUV like this likes to stay useful. You see it in everything from the tall 4×4 prowess to the proper trailer hitch.

Inside is more of the time capsule preservation done in a tasteful red. This has the features you’re going to like. The seats are finished in a comfy velour, which means people will sit down in the rear without hesitation even when this one is open to the world. And your front buckets not only have high-back comfort, but also there’s a cup holder center console in-between. This was built in the era when Chevy loaded some of its pickups and SUVs with the best features. So you have cruise control, a Delco AM/FM/cassette stereo, a tilt steering column on the driver-oriented dash, and provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.)

Under the hood is the Detroit Diesel 6.2-liter engine. This is a rare option for civilian Blazers, but it’s robust enough that it was the one the military used in its examples (it would even be utilized for the later HMMWV/Hummer.) You’ll proudly show off this powerhouse because it’s preserved just as nicely as the rest of this exceptional Blazer. And you can also tell it has received the right maintenance, right down to the dual Optima red top batteries. The big torque of the diesel lets you climb mountains, and there’s a good set of all-terrain tires to dig deep into the trail. But you don’t need to take this pristine classic off-road to enjoy it. Power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a four-speed automatic transmission with highway-friendly overdrive makes it easy to cruise to car shows near and far.
